If you want to save some money on your travel reservations, book your flight reservations early. Airlines charge much more for last minute tickets, and the best way to get reasonably priced flight reservations is to get them at least two weeks ahead of time, if not sooner than that. Airline ticket reservations are so easy to make, so when you know you are going to be going somewhere, book ahead of time.
Hotel reservations are another story, however. Sometimes you can get discount hotel reservations at the last minute that are cheaper than by booking ahead, because you can take advantage of their room vacancies. However, if you are traveling to a destination during a peak travel time or when the hotel is hosting a convention or some other kind of event, you may want to book earlier. As a safeguard, book a hotel reservation at another hotel early, just in case you can't get discount travel reservations at the last minute. If you get a cheaper room elsewhere, cancel those previous reservations. Like retail stores, hotels have "sales," but people do not realize that they can negotiate with hotels for lower rates.
